This Cookies Policy explains how WordsearchZen.com (“WordsearchZen”, “we”, “us”) and the services we use rely on cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. Read it together with our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies include pixel tags (tiny images), web beacons, local storage and device identifiers. They let a site or service recognise your browser on a later visit, remember your settings, measure how the site is used and show relevant advertising. Cookies set by the website you are visiting are “first-party” cookies. Cookies set by other companies, such as analytics or advertising providers, are “third-party” cookies.

The cookies used on WordsearchZen

WordsearchZen has no accounts or logins, so we don’t use cookies to identify you personally. The cookies on the site fall into four groups:

1. Strictly necessary

These are needed for the site to be delivered securely. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may set security cookies (for example __cf_bm) to tell people apart from bots and protect the site from abuse. They can’t be switched off through our consent settings, but you can block them in your browser. Parts of the site may then not work properly.

2. Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which puzzles are popular. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_<ID>, which typically last up to two years. They help us tell new visitors from returning ones. We look at this information only in aggregate. Where the law requires consent, these cookies are set only after you agree.

3. Advertising

The site is free because it shows advertising, which is managed by Journey by Mediavine. Journey and its advertising partners set third-party cookies and use similar technologies to:

• show ads and limit how often you see the same one;
• personalise ads based on your activity on this and other sites, where permitted;
• measure whether ads are seen and how they perform;
• detect and prevent advertising fraud.

The exact cookies depend on which partners are serving ads on a given page view, and they change over time. Where the law requires consent, these cookies are used only according to the choices you make in the consent message.

4. Preferences and features

Grow by Mediavine features, such as saving favourite puzzles, may use cookies or local storage to remember your preferences and, if you choose to sign in to Grow, to keep you signed in.

How to manage cookies

• Consent settings: where required by law (for example in the EU, UK and certain US states), a consent message lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies when you first visit. You can change your choices at any time with the privacy or consent settings link shown on the site.
• Opt out of personalised ads: visit the Network Advertising Initiative, the Digital Advertising Alliance or Your Online Choices (EU/UK).
• Google Analytics: install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
• Your browser: all modern browsers let you block or delete cookies. Look for “Privacy”, “Cookies” or “Site data” in your browser’s settings. Blocking all cookies may stop some parts of the site from working as expected.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when the cookies or services we use change, and we will change the “Last updated” date at the top when we do.
