How to play word search online

Find the hidden words

Every word in the list is hidden in the grid of letters. Words run in straight lines in any of eight directions: across, down, diagonally and, in harder puzzles, backwards. Letters can be shared where two words cross.

Circle a word

Drag across a word with your mouse or finger, or tap its first letter and then its last. On a keyboard, move with the arrow keys and press Enter on the first and last letter. Found words are crossed off the list.

Timer and progress

The timer starts with your first move and pauses when you leave. Your progress on each puzzle is saved in this browser, so you can come back later and carry on where you stopped.

Stuck?

Press “Show answers” to reveal the words you haven’t found, or “Another puzzle” for a fresh one. Hard puzzles hide longer words in bigger grids, so try scanning for a rare letter like Q, X or Z first.
