Mineral Properties Word Search
Can you spot CRYSTAL, QUARTZ and CLEAVAGE?
PDF + answer keyScienceMediumFree PDFs + answer keys
Two free rocks and minerals word searches for an earth science unit, each a printable PDF with the answer key on page two. The first is about minerals and how geologists tell them apart. It names common ones, QUARTZ, FELDSPAR, MICA, CALCITE, GYPSUM, HALITE and PYRITE, from soft TALC to DIAMOND at the top of the MOHSSCALE, and the tests used to identify them: HARDNESS, LUSTER, STREAK, CLEAVAGE and CRYSTAL shape.
The second sheet follows the rock cycle. IGNEOUS rock forms when MAGMA or LAVA goes through COOLING; WEATHERING, EROSION, DEPOSITION, COMPACTION and CEMENTATION make SEDIMENTARY rock; heat and PRESSURE turn rock METAMORPHIC; and MELTING starts it all again. GRANITE and MARBLE stand in as examples. The word list runs medium and suits students from about 9 up. More in the earth science word searches and the science word searches.
