Download and print free weather word searches: fifteen puzzles that cover the sky from every angle, from cloud types and weather instruments to storms, seasons and extreme weather around the world. Every puzzle is a free PDF with the answer key included, sized for standard printer paper and ready for a science lesson, a rainy-day activity or a weather unit.
Each grid is built around one kind of weather rather than a general word list. The cloud types puzzle hides CUMULONIMBUS and ALTOSTRATUS. The instruments puzzle runs from the THERMOMETER and BAROMETER to the ANEMOMETER and the WEATHERBALLOON. The extreme weather puzzle covers the DERECHO, the SUPERCELL and the HEATDOME, and there are grade-level puzzles for 1st and 4th graders.

The puzzles follow the weather through the year, with a puzzle for each season’s weather, a rainy day puzzle and a snowy day puzzle. Others cover how weather works and how it is measured: the cloud types, the instruments at a weather station, and the forecasting language of meteorology, from the jet stream to the isobar. The extreme weather and hurricane puzzles cover the storms, and weather around the world covers monsoons, trade winds and El Niño.
Each download is a two-page PDF: the puzzle grid on page one, the completed answer key on page two. Fifteen words per grid, hidden in every direction. Nothing to sign up for and nothing to install. Click a card and print the page.
Use one as a starter for a weather or water-cycle lesson, hand out the matching season’s puzzle as the weather turns, or keep a stack for indoor recess on a wet day. The 1st grade puzzle uses short everyday words like RAIN and SNOW; the cloud types and meteorology puzzles suit upper elementary and middle school science.
