Every English word does a job, and the traditional list has eight of them. The first free word search names all eight: NOUNS, PRONOUN, VERBS, ADVERB, ADJECTIVE, PREPOSITION, CONJUNCTION and INTERJECTION, plus the ARTICLE (a, an, the). The other words are memory hooks: a noun is a PERSON, PLACE or THING, a verb is an ACTION, an adjective helps DESCRIBE, and WOW is an interjection.
Sheet two moves from labels to sentence building: SUBJECT and PREDICATE, OBJECT, CLAUSE and PHRASE, a MODIFIER, SINGULAR and PLURAL with subject-verb AGREEMENT, PRESENT and FUTURE TENSE, the POSSESSIVE, COMPOUND words and the CONTRACTION. Both printable PDFs come with an answer key. The word list runs easy-to-medium for the first sheet and medium for the second, suiting students from about 8 up.
