How to make a word scramble
- Give the sheet a title. It prints at the top of both pages.
- Enter 3 to 25 words, one per line or separated by commas. Two-word answers like CANDY CANE are scrambled word by word.
- Choose the help: the first letter on each answer line, a word bank, both, or none.
- Press Make scramble and check the preview. Press Shuffle again for a different scramble.
- Print it, or download the PDF. Page 1 is the puzzle and page 2 is the answer key.
Tips for a good word list
Words of 5 to 9 letters work best. Short words are quick to guess and some unscramble into a different word: EARTH and HEART use the same letters, so whoever is checking may need to accept either.
The maker never prints a scramble that is the answer itself or another answer on your list, and it moves most letters out of their starting place.
