Patriot Day is observed in the United States every September 11, a day to remember the lives lost in 2001 and the people who came to help. These two free word searches are a calm, respectful way to bring the day into a classroom or home. The first sheet, Patriot Day Remembrance, uses the language of remembering: a MOMENT OF SILENCE, the flag flown at HALF STAFF, a lit CANDLE, the MEMORIAL and REFLECTING POOL in NEW YORK, the PENTAGON and the field in PENNSYLVANIA.
The second sheet honors the helpers. FIREFIGHTER, POLICE, PARAMEDIC and VOLUNTEER sit alongside words like COURAGE, SERVICE, KINDNESS and GRATITUDE, a good starting point for talking about the National Day of Service that shares the date. The word list runs easy-to-medium and suits children from about 8 up. Each PDF prints with its answer key on page two.
