What the 7th Grade Puzzles Cover
The math strand steps up to Pre-Algebra — INTEGER, EXPONENT, COEFFICIENT — the vocabulary students must own before algebra proper. Civics covers the government-and-citizenship course many states place in 7th grade (AMENDMENT, JUDICIAL, SUFFRAGE). Science appears twice, as Life Science and Body Systems, matching the biology-focused year most middle schools run. Literature collects the analysis terms — PROTAGONIST, FORESHADOWING, IRONY — that 7th grade essays are graded on, and World History and Geography complete the schedule.
Academic Vocabulary, Handled Sideways
Seventh graders are past the age where vocabulary drills feel fun, which is exactly what makes a word search useful: it is vocabulary review that does not announce itself as such. Hunting METAPHOR out of a letter grid is a sideways glance at the word — no definition demanded, no grade attached — and that repeated low-pressure exposure is what moves a term from ‘seen it’ to ‘can use it’. The dedicated Vocabulary grid mixes high-frequency academic words from across all subjects.
Ways Teachers Use This Page
The Civics and Pre-Algebra puzzles work as unit-review handouts the day before a test. English teachers pair the Literature grid with whatever novel the class is reading — the terms apply to any of them. And because every PDF carries its own answer key, all nine seasonal puzzles are genuinely zero-prep: print, hand out, done.
